National Workshop on Processing of different hair / wool for value added products

The National Workshop on “Processing of different hair / wool for value added products”, was organised on 24/03/2003 & 25/03/2003 at Wool Research Association jointly with Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute (CSWRI) under NATP (The National Agricultural Technology project).

Mrs. G.P. Rane, Acting Director (Officiating), WRA welcomed all the dignitaries with floral bouquet and mementoes.

Shri. Ravikant Kapur, President, WRA, briefed about the activities of WRA and also shared his entrepreneurial experience with value additions of wool and other animal hairs blends. He also gave the valuable guidance regarding the project implementation of specialty fibers as regards its identification and various product developments.

Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, CSWRI briefed about the activities of CSWRI highlighting the NATP achievements.

The event was inaugurated by Shri. B.K. Kediaji, Chairman Emeritus, WRA in presence of Shri. Ravikant Kapur, President, WRA, Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, CSWRI, Dr. Sreenivasan, Director, CIRCOT, Mumbai, Shri A.C. Chaudhuri, Secretary General, IWMF, Mumbai, Shri V.K. Bhartia, Sr. Vice President, WRA, Dr. G.S. Singh, Chairman, Technical Committee, WRA.

During inaugural address, Shri. B.K. Kediaji emphasized on diversified value addition for hair & wool fibers. He shared his views regarding the achievements of the programme and also expressed his vast experience in the field of processing of costly hair fibers.
Shri N.P. Gupta, Head, Wool Technology Divn., CSWRI delivered his vote of thanks.

Technical Session - I

During the post lunch Technical Session -I, the scientists of CSWRI presented their R&D findings in three technical papers as under.

Technical Session- II

In the Technical Session- II, the scientists of WRA presented their R&D findings in two technical papers as below.

Mr. T.R. Rao, Scientist E-1 presented the informative technical paper on the subject of Promotion of Natural dyes, its extraction, applications and processing.
2) Mr. N. S. Phatak presented the technical paper entitled, “Effective
utilisation of Angora Rabbit Wool in suitable blend composition with fine sheep wool, silk, acrylic, etc through appropriate spinning stages for products like shawls, lohies, knitwears, dress materials, scarves, Tea-cozys and quilts”.

Concluding Remarks :

Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, CSWRI concluded the day with his appreciation to the organisers of the event and also expressed his view to continue the same interaction in future also in the interest of both the organisation i.e. CSWRI & WRA which will be useful for the agricultural sector also.

On 25/03/2003, the plenary discussion was held with dignitaries and participants of the workshop.

Before lunch, participants of the workshop were taken round through various departments/ laboratories of WRA to see the facilities available in WRA.

Overall the two days National workshop was a grand success and benefited the scientists, entrepreneurs and government officials.
